Academy Award Winner Hilary Swank Promotes Pet Adoption in 2009 Iams Campaign

Oscar winning actress Hilary Swank has partnered with Iams to raise awareness for animal adoption. Iams selected Swank as the 2009 ambassador for the Home 4 The Holidays pet adoption campaign.
“Now, more than ever, orphaned animals need our help, and who better to give them a voice than Hilary?” said Mike Arms, founder of Home 4 The Holidays. Arms also serves as president of the Helen Woodward Animal Center, founding partner of Home 4 The Holidays.
The Helen Woodward Animal Center is a private, non-profit organization committed to a unique philosophy: people helping animals, and animals helping people. It provides services that benefit the community through educational and therapeutic programs for people, as well as humane care and adoption for animals.
Home 4 The Holidays and the Helen Woodward Animal Center—along with nearly 3,500 animal adoption organizations—hope to find loving homes for 1.5 million pets this holiday season. The official campaign runs from October 1 through January 5, 2010.
As 2009 ambassador, Swank will share her personal experience with pet adoption and rescue to help educate the public on how they can help homeless animals—through adoption, volunteerism, or donations.
According to Iams, Swank has adopted several pets throughout her life, including cats, dogs, and birds. She currently lives in Los Angeles with her two rescued dogs Karoo and Rumi.
Karoo, a Jack Russell/Corgi mix, is named after the South African countryside where Swank filmed the movie Red Dust. Rumi, a Golden Retriever mix, is named after the famous Persian poet.
Swank spends a lot of time with her dogs, says Iams, and they are very much a part of her family. “Every day when I look at Karoo and Rumi, I know they’re thankful I’ve adopted them into my family,” said Swank. “And I’m just as thankful they’ve adopted me,” she said.
Iams initiated their Home 4 The Holidays animal adoption drive in 1999. In the ten years since that first campaign, Home 4 The Holidays has helped more than 3.2 million pets find permanent homes with loving families. To adopt a pet this holiday season, visit Iams to find a local shelter.
